Abstract Technological advances in cardiac care have enhanced the ability to help patients with electrical or mechanical cardiac dysfunction and to improve their quality of life. The permanent pacemaker improved heart care by detecting arrhythmia and regulating it as appropriate by sending an electrical shock to revive the wearer before the situation becomes a lifethreatening emergency due to cardiac arrest, heart attack, or blockage of the blood vessels. Poor compliance to prescribed therapeutic regimen may have a major impact on treatment outcomes, especially for patients with a chronic illness. Patients can fail to comply when they don’t understand their conditions and importance of treatment plan they should follow. Therefore, good communication with healthcare providers was likely to cause a positive effect on patient’s compliance. So, nurses are in the unique position of being able to provide education, counseling and communication to patients with multitude of problems and to develop interventions that enhance their compliance to prescribed regimens. |
