Abstract

Algal oils are ascribing crucial importance as sustainable fuel alternative. In this work, four algal species isolated from local water bodies at Assiut area have been studied for enhancing their oil yield via four different approaches. The algae are Chlorococcum humicola, Scenedesmus acutiformis, Scenedesmus dimorphus and Scenedesmus quadricauda. In addition, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (a gift from SAG, Algal collection, Götingen, Germany) was studied. These algae have been grown for one week under the following treatments: Malonate concentrations (0, 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25mM), nitrogen concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, and 150%), malonate-nitrogen combination (optimum concentrations nitrogen and malonate) and sewage levels (%).
