Abstract This study was performed on 120 selected cases of hepatic focal lesions retrieved from the files of pathology laboratory of Gastroenterology Center, Mansoura University from 2009 to 2012. After routine staining by H&E, and special staining by reticulin stain, all cases were immunostained with GPC-3 and CD34. Malignant cases were further stained for Hep Par-1 and pCEA. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were calculated for all antibodies. Non hepatocellular malignant tumors were also stained for CK7&CK20.In group C, All cases of macroregenerative nodules, LGDNs, HCA and FNH were negative for GPC-3. However, Focal GPC3 positive staining was only seen in 3/8 (37.5%) of HGDNs. GPC-3 expression in group A was significantly higher than in group C. The results of GPC3/ CD34combined staining showed that, in HCCs, almost all the GPC-3 positive cases had a complete CD34 staining pattern. The combined use of pCEA and GPC-3 had the same diagnostic value to that obtained by GPC3 alone. |
