Abstract

The present study was carried out at the Poultry Research Farm, Department
of Poultry Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Minufiya University at Shibin El-Kom,
Egypt, during the period of November 2010 to January 2011. A total number of 54
”12 males and 42 females” Norfa chickens (28 wk of ages) were used in this
investigation. The 54 NORFA chickens were divided into 3 groups, each group of 18
birds “4 male and 14 female”; Control group reared under normal ambient
temperature averaged 22-25 ° C. Heat stressed group” 35 ° C + 50% RH ” THI= 45”,
and without any feed additives. Heat stressed group ” 35 ° C + 50% RH ” THI= 45”,
supplied with Vit C 50%, 1 g , KCL, 1 g and NaHCO3 1 g per liter of drinking water
supplied all the period of the experiment. The last two groups were exposed to heat
stress for four hours a day three times a week and the experiment lasted for six
weeks. This experiment was designed to study the effect of Heat stress (35 ° C + 50%
RH ” THI= 45”) and feed additives(Vit C 50%, 1 g , potassium chloride , 1 g and
sodium bicarbonate 1 g per liter of drinking water) on some production parameters
in Norfa chickens (body weight, growth rate, egg weight, and egg quality,).also, to
study Effect of Heat stress and feed additives on some physiological parameters(
Body Temperature, Respiration Rate, Some Blood Characteristics, and Immunity)
T he obtained results were summarized as the following:
1- Heat stress reduced live body weight, egg weight, Yolk weight, albumen
weight, eggshell weight, eggshell thickness, blood Hb, RBCs count, WBCs
count, total plasma proteins, albumen, and chickens immunity.
2- Heat Stress was found to increase Yolk Color, Body Temperature, Respiration
Rate, and Blood GOT and Blood GPT.
3- Heat Stress had no significant effect on blood HCT, MCV, MCHC, MCH, and
blood serum Globulin.
4- The feed additives were found to increase and improve egg breaking
strength, shell thickness, shell weight, total plasma protein, total plasma
albumin, chickens immunity, and RBCs count.
5- It was also observed that the feed additives reduced WBCs count and blood
GPT level. And it was found to have no significant effect on respiration rate,
blood GOT level and total serum globulin.
