Abstract
This report dicusses the importance of the lubrication oil system in industry especially for steam turbine. It explains the sever damage which could happen when losing the lube oil. It also discusses different types of mechanisms by which the lubrication is carried out, types of lubricant supply and some factors affecting lubrication. It describes the lubrication system component such as pumps, oil tank, filters and coolers. It shows the oil properties whichwill improve the operation and reduce the wear down rate and hence the maintenance cost of the machine and shows some oil physical characteristics. It describes the types of bearings required for large turbine/generator set and gives the desirable properties of a good bearing material, some bearing troubleshooting and lube oil system problems, the vibration effect on turbine bearings and explains how to set vibration levels alarm.The report explains how to make a design of lubrication oil system and proper selection of its components; this was applied on Steam turbine of SIDI KRIR power station and its lubrication system.
