Abstract The collection of machinability parameters in the conventional manner demands a great deal of time and material consumption leading to considerable cost. This issue has been treated in the present investigation by the on line evaluation of machinability parameters. The evaluation is done by using a suitably designed workpiece in a longtidinal turning operation to enable the measurement of the required parameters in signal pass. The output signals from the measuring systems are fed to the computer via an analog to digital converter for the data processing using a specially prepared software. The developed computerized machinability testing system has proved to be extremely helpful in the automatic determination of the machinability data. The well known accelerated tool life test have been analysed theoretically and their drawbacks are overcome in the developed rapid tool life test which has proved to be reliable when compared with the conventional and the step turning tests. |
