Abstract

The present work is concerned with the subsurface setting and the evaluation of the geochemical characteristics of the potential source rocks and crude oils which were produced from ten wells in Ras Gharib area in the central Gulf of Suez which lies between Latitudes 28о 23׳-28о 24׳ N and Longitudes 33о 03׳-33о 04׳ E. The subsurface geological studies for the Cretaceous ( Nubia “A”, Raha and Wata formations ) and Miocene (Basal Miocene Beds “Nukhul”, Belayium, South- Gharib and Zeit formations) rock units are achieved through constructing isopach and facies maps, as well lithostratigraphic cross section in order to distinguish the shape and the extent of sedimentary basins of these units and the environment of deposition. This study clarify that Nubia “A” Formation was deposited in terrestrial to shallow marine environment and has two main depocenters of deposition at the southeastern and southwestern directions. While, Raha and Wata formations were deposited in shallow marine environment
