Abstract

Solar thermal power plant (STPP) is one of the main candidates to provide a major share for electricity generation of renewable clean energy needed in the future. All concentrating STPP technologies relay on four key elements, these are concentrator, receiver of solar radiation, transport-storage of the heat transfer fluid (HTF) and power conversion. A comparison between the difference for these elements technologies is introduced in this thesis. A proposed generation model has introduced in this thesis to get the generation of STPP and applied numerically on EL- kuraymat power plant, the first STPP in EGYPT, which located at 95 km south of Cairo in desert. The different methods of integrating the STPP with conventional power plants such as gas or/and steam into the integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) or the integrated solar triple cycle (ISTC) are introduced and applied to modeling the ISCC EL- kuraymat power plant.Study the operation of the ISCC power plant by study the reliability indices in normal operation and in outage cases (plant outage (STPP, gas power plant, both), change in (Forced Outage Rate) FOR, weather outage due to sirocco). Comparison between the operation of the plant alone or interconnected with the grid.A modern techniques such as (GA, PSO) and linear programming has used to optimize the generation of STPP according to the proposed generation model. A developed GA program has used to optimize the reliability indices (LOLP, LOLE, ENS, LOLF, LOLD), which designed for this grid and for these outage cases, the results of this program compared with the results of PSO program.
