Abstract
Effect of Neem (Azadirachta indica) Extract on Some Tissues and Biochemical Parameters in Rats Treated with Cisplatin
Cisplatin, an effective antineoplastic agent, IS toxic to the liver and kidney. Since, this study was aimed to investigate the protective effect of
methanolic neem (;1zadirachta indica) leaves
extract against cisplatin-induced hepato- and
nephrotoxicity. Methanolic neem leaves extract (MNLE) showed significant protection as evidenced by the decrease of elevated serum
alanine aminotransferase,aspartate
aminotransferase, gamma glutamy I transferase,
alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, creatinine, uric acid and urea pre-, post- and co-treatment of neem. This improvement of physiological function
was associated with highly refinement of
histological and histochemical effects of
carbohydrates and total proteins III liver and kidney. These findings suggested that MNLE pre-, post- and co-treatment can prevent the hepato- and nephrotoxicity induced by cisplatin.
