Abstract

The brain is the center of the nervous system controling the other organ systems of the body, either by activating muscles or by causing secretion of chemicals such as neurotransmitters, this centralized control allows rapid and coordinated responses to changes in the environment.
The brain manages its complex task by controlling functional subsystems, sensory systems; one of the primary functions of a brain is to extract biologically relevant information from sensory inputs. Sensory processes go beyond the classical five senses of sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell.
There are many hallucinogens which affect on our brain, hallucinogens present in natural plant and drugs.
They act on different types of brain receptors leading to opening or blocking of ion channels and stimulation of many signaling pathways to exert their actions.
Prolonged abuse of hallucinogens affect brain metabolism, hallucinogens change secretion of the neuro transmitters in brain either excitatory or inhibitory neuro transmitters.
This assay discusses how the brain is affected by these hallucinogens and how brain metabolism is affected with hallucinogen use.
