Abstract It has been established that the Amarna Period comprises the reigns of Akhenaten (l350-1334BC), Smenkhkara (1336-1334 BC), Tutankhaten, ”before the latter changed his name to Tutankhamun (1334-1325 BC)” and Ay (1325-1321 BC). The period is named after the capital city, Tell el- Amarna (modern name in history books that was named by Petrie and the other explorersj.t”) whose original name was Akhet-aten which is founded by Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten, son of Amenhotep III. Akhenaten ascended at the throne of Egypt as Amenhotep (IV), but he changed his name when he rejected traditional religion in favour of the worship of Aten. This period is in the heart of 18th dynasty that is of such exceptional in the Ancient Egyptian History, that we can say the Egyptian History took a new direction, when Amenhotep IV I Akhenaten ascended the throne, and announced his new cult for the worship of the god Aten and reduced the importance of the traditional gods. He decided to leave Thebes with all its religious, political and economic status to a new capital, called Tell el Arnrana. However, making consideration of the life and time of Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten is difficult to do. Therefore, the present research is depended on the modern archeologists of the Amarna period who discovered new finds about this eriod. Perhaps, careful analysis of the evidences that are collected, provide with new material about this period. |
