Abstract

Stability of yield and yield attributes as well as fiber strength and fineness were assessed for eight Egyptian cotton genotypes (Gossypium barbadense L.) over 18 environments established in two successive seasons through manipulating sowing date, nitrogen fertilizer level and planting distance. Stability analysis was also performed f or the F1 diallel cross among the eight genotypes which was raised over three consecutive sowing dates in the third season. Each array of the diallel cross was randomly allocated to a hexagonal unit within which the eight member genotypes of each array were distributed. Each hexagon was replicated three times in each sowing date. The results of the stability analysis could be summarized as follows:
1 - uighly significant GE interactions existed for seed- cotton yield per Plant and its attributes. Most of these interactions were accounted for by differences in the slopes of the linear regressions which were heterogeneous.
2 - the regression response indices were positively correlated with the means of performance over the 18 environments indicating that the low yielding genotes were generally stables while the high yielding ones were rather responsive.
