Abstract Subglottic stenosis is one of the most important cauese of upper airway obstruction. approximately 90 % of infants and children with severe acquired laryngo-tracheal stenosis are tracheostomy dependent and are liable to many complications. two trpes of cartilage grafts costal &auricular are examined for repair of subglottic senosis on an experimental animal dogs. the grafts wrer placed between the divided halves of the cricoid both anteriorly and posteriorly. costal catilage graft proved to be a very effective graft proved to be a very effective graft mterial for laryngotracheal reconstruction. lt is rigid enough to maintanin the airway patent and is not liable to kinking like auriclar cartilage. there is enough cartilage to havest, moreover it has the potential to survive and regenerate. auricular cartillage graft represent another vatuable alternative to costal cartilage graft. and could be used in selected cases problems, such as inffection and granulation tissue formation, were relatively minor and inferquent. |
