Abstract The present study aimed to reveal the physiological role of C-peptide through induction of diabetes using streptozotocin injection in rats. The data obtained from compensatory injection of insulin and for C-peptide in diabetic rats revealed that C-peptide has a favorable effect on the metabolic profile, besides it affected other hemodynamic functions through its ability to stimulate nitric oxide synthesis in blood vessels. the above mentioned metabolic and hemodynamic effects resulted in improvement of liver and kidney functions as well as nerve conduction velocities ,thus ameliorating diabetes induced hepatic pathology, nephropathy and neuropathy. |
