Abstract

Downhole Water Sink technology (DWS) is one of the industrial solutions to control water coning in oil wells comprises two completions isolated with a zonal isolation packer: the bottom completion produces water below oil-water contact and keeps the top completion above open to oil inflow, However, several problems have been experienced in the application of the technology in watered-out oil wells.
The system performance depends on careful manipulation of the top and bottom rates to maximize oil productivity and produces oil-free water from the bottom completion.
The objective of this study is to construct partial differential equations system to describe two dimensions (r, z), two phases, semi implicit, isothermal, incompressible oil reservoir, and build a numerical simulator to solve this equations system. Also we aim to investigate by this simulator the production performance of the well with and without downhole water sink application, and study the effect of production flow rate and sink position on critical oil flow rate from top perforation and oil-free water production from bottom perforation.
An actual field data from one an Egyptian oil field called Hayat oil Field. The study showed that DWS completions provides a significant improvement over conventional well
