Abstract

At the last few years, broad bean plants at flowering stage seriously infected with bacterial blight disease caused by Jseudomonas syirngae pv. syringae. It destroying leaves and cause reat damage to the plants and consequently decreasing the yield. Therefore, this work was designed to document the occurrence of this disease in Egypt. Study some factors affecting disease incidence. Resistance of some broad bean cultivars and germplasms to infection and finally control the disease by chemicals were also investigated.
Results of this work can be summarized as follows:
- Nine isolates out of 15 ones isolated from naturally infection leaves collected from different localities of
Assiut Governorte proved to be pathogenic and cause bacterial blight disease to broad bean plants.
2 - The pathogenic isolates were identified as Pseudornonas syringae pv. syringae.
Bacterial blight of broad bean caused small circular brown spots 2-3 mm in diameter then coalesce forming irregular blotches surrounded by dark brown margin and wide yellowing green halo and finally infected tissues turned dark brown and died.
Pseudoinonas syringae pv. syringae appeared to be host specific and proved to have a very narrow host range.
