Abstract The present work aimed to study the mutagenic effects of Borne pesticides widely used in Egypt ; two phosphoorganic insecticides namely “Nuvacron” and “Curacron” one methomyl carbamate insecticide namely “T.annate and two herbicides namely “Stomp” and Dual” , on the chromosomes of Zea nays root—tips. The seeds were soaked in different concentrations fran each pesticide. from “Nuvacron”. , “Curacron” and Lannate” the concentrations of 500,1000 and 1500 p.p.m. , were used. The concentrations of 1,100,500,1000 and 20,000p.p.m. were used fran the herbicide *Stompw The herbicide “Dual was used at the concentrations of 100,500,1000 and 20,000p.p.m. The mitotic indqx and mutation rate were scored. The results showed the following findings: 1. The phosphçnic insecticide “Nuvacron” reduced the mitotic index at all concentrations used. The percent of the mitotic inhibition increased with increasing the concentration of the agent, It induced a significant increase in the structural chranosanal aberrations which were chromatic! breaks, chromosone breaks, interchange figu— res, ring and dicentric chromosomes. The concentration of SOOp.p.m. caused the highest percent of aberrations which decreased with increasing the concentration of the in.ec— ticide to 1000 and 1500 p.p.m. |
