Abstract

The present investigation was carried out at the Agricultural Experimental Farm, Assiut University, Assiut, Egypt, during the summer seasons of 1986, 1987 and 1988 to study the effect of nitrogen fertilizations and micro- elements on growth, yield and its components and quality of maize cultivars, Giza 2, Cairo 1 and D.C. 202. The application of four nitrogen levels, namely 0, 45, 90 and 135 kg/fed., in addition to the spraying of two micro— element treatments, i.e. copper (CuS04) and zinc (ZnSO4) as well as controltreatment (water).
A split—split—plot design with three replications was adopted. The three maize cultivars were randomly arranged in the whole plots, while nitrogen levels were located in the sub-plots and the micro—elements were assigned to the sub—sub—plots.
Each sub-sub—plots consisted of 5 rows, 3 m long and 70 cm apart, i.e. fed. The two rows were used for determing the growth parameters and the other three rows were used to estimate yield, as well as their components.
The results were statistically analysed and the treatment means over three seasons for all traits, except the growth parameters over two seasons, compared by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. In addition the growth
