In order to improve marketing of rice crop in Egypt and to enable this important sector to provide better marketing services for both producers and consumers alike, this study aims at shedding lights on:—
— various aspects of rice production, pricing, and consumption.
- Relationships of these aspects to the major problems of rice marketing in Egypt.
To achieve the objective the study dealt with rice production capacity, pricing policies, marketing patterns, consumption patterns, and international trade.
The results indicate that India ranks first among rice producing countries in terms of average annual rice area followed by Chine and Bangladesh. North Korea ranks first among rice producing countries in terms of yield per hectare followed by Australia and South Korea. Chine ranks first in terms of average annual total production of rice followed by
India and Indonesia. -
While Egypt is not among the leading countries in terms of area or total production of rice, it certainly has one of the highest world rice yields and ranks eight among rice producing countries.
