Abstract
He incidence of intracariac thrombosis in hemodialysis patients has not been studied in Egypt yet. Here we determined the incidence in end-stage rental disease patients on maintenance hemodialysis
Transoesophageal echocardiography was performed in 55 patients (21 males , 34 females; mean age 46.8 ± 10.9 years) on regular hemodialysis for more than 6 months in Suez Canal University hospital and El-Hedia Rental unit[ special hemodialysis unit in Ismailia having 86 patients on regular hemodialysis ] any potential or with cardiovascular diseases was excluded from the study No thrombi were found in the left atrial appendages except 2 cases of spontaneous echo contrast out of 55 subjects (3%) . Based on multiple parameters analysis , the probability of finding a spontaneous echo contrast was found to be not related to chronic antiplatelet therapy, diabetes mellitus or a aematocrit other clinical parameters including duration of hemodialysis , high blood pressure , chronic liver disease , diabetes mellitus , smoking habit or type of dialysate fluid, were also not associated with the incidence of left trail of dialysate fluid , were also not associated with the incidence of left atrial append age spontaneous echo contrast . Left trail diameter, left trail appendage flow velocity and haematicrite were found also not to be risk factors for the incidence of left atrial appendage spontaneous echo contrast.
