المستخلص

The transmission line matrix method is a time domain differential method for the numerical solution of Maxwell’s equations. Its advantages when applied to antenna problems are numerous. There are many antenna problems that can be solved in two dimensions. The results obtained from two-dimensional transmission line matrix simulations are comparable to or even better than that obtained using expensive threedimensional transmission line matrix packages. Also the computational requirements are much less. Thus making use of three dimensional packages unnecessary. In this thesis an algorithm and simulation software based upon two-dimensional transmission line matrix method were developed and validated. The radiation patterns of several antennas were computed and compared to radiation patterns available from : (1) analytical solutions,(2) moment method, (3) published measurements, and (4) a standardthree-dimensional transmission line matrix package. The developed algorithm and software were used to : (1) design planar ultra wideband monopole antennas over ground planes for shaping the radiated spectral power density to comply with FCC radiation masks, 2) compute the resonance frequencies of meander line antennas with different iterations and arm lengths, and (3) find the radiation pattern of a reconfigurable log periodic dipole array used for cognitive radio.
