Abstract

The current study has investigated the shear behavior of
reinforced concrete T-beams. The scope of the study consisted of
an experimental investigation and theoretical analysis.
This experimental program comprised a total of six
medium-scale reinforced concrete beam specimens tested to shear
failure at the Reinforced Concrete Laboratory of the Structural
Department of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams
University to investigate the modes of failure, the ultimate load
capacity and the shear behavior of the reinforced concrete Tbeams.
The deformation, crack width and the steel strain were
examined. The six beam specimens included five T-section beam
specimens and one control beam specimen with rectangular
section.
The key parameters considered in the experimental program
were the flange width (Bƒ) and shear span-to- depth ratio (a/d).
The theoretical (analytical) phase included different
analytical approaches to predict the shear strength and behavior of
the tested beam specimens. These analytical models used to
predict the shear behavior of reinforced concrete T-beams
included well-established shear theory, Strut and Tie model
(STM) and simplified shear design equations. The predictions of
the shear models were compared with the results of the
experimental program.
Based on the findings of the experimental and analytical
investigations, conclusions were made
