Abstract
This study included forty male patients with unilateral uncomplicated inguinal hernia, which were randomly allocated and blinded to receive either a Lichtenstein patch or a tailored plug-and-patch. Open mesh used in anterior inguinal hernia repair can be configured as a flat patch (Lichtenstein operation) or as a cone-shaped preformed plug and supplementary patch (plug-and-patch) which is pre-fabricated as prefix plug; Davol Inc, Cranston, RI’, or its modification by Millikan ’modified Prefix plug; Davol Inc, Cranston, RI’ or it can be tailored from a flat mesh sheet which resembles the original plug-and-patch system, as regards the Millikan’s modification, he modified the procedure performed by Rutkow and Robbins by recommending that the inside petals be sewn to the ring of the defect .
