Abstract
The present thesis comprises three chapters the first one includes a literature survey on the electrochemistry of stainless steel and structurally analogous systems. the anodic behaviour and the pitting corrosion of stainless steel in presence of different aggressive anions and mediums are disciussed. Moreover. the effect of halide ions
especially C/- anion on the breakdown and pitting of the passive tilm formed on stainless steel anode surface was given. A general introduction for the electrochemical behavior of different organic inhibitors was included. The introduction ends with the literature survey on the applications of some organic compounds in difTerent fields especially in the corrosion protection of different metals.
The second chapter is concerned with the experimental work. the electrodes (working electrode, counter electrode and reference electrode), electrolytic cell. solutions. procedures and instruments used in different parts of this thesis. The electrochemical techniques lor investigation and characterization of stainless steel were described.
