Abstract This experiment was carried out at new reclaimed soil at El-Kawamel Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Sohag, South Valley University, during 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 winter seasons. Drip irrigation system was used in this farm. The investigation aimed to study the response of some onion cultivars, i.e. (Giza 6 mohassan, Giza 20, and Shandaweel I) to organic (FYM) and mineral (Nitrogen) fertilization in new reclaimed soil. The organic and mineral nitrogen fertilizers combined to consist four treatments as follows : 1- 30 ton Farm Yard Manure (FYM). 2- 20 tons FYM + 40 kg N/fed. 3- 10 tons FYM + 80 kg N/fed. 4- 120 kg N/fed. (Recommended dose) (R.D). The obtained results could be summarized as follows :- 1- Plant height (cm):- • Plant height significantly affected by cultivars. Giza 20 cultivar gave the tallest plants in both seasons. • The highest values were obtained by (120 Kg N/fed.) or (20 ton FYM+ 40 Kg N/fed.) in the first and second season, respectively. • The interaction between the studied factors were of significantly effect on this character. Giza 20 plants which fertilized with (20 ton FYM+ 40 Kg N/fed.) produced the tallest plants in both seasons. 2- Number of leaves/plant:- • Onion cultivars significantly effected on this trait only in the first season. Shandaweel I cultivar gave the highest number of leaves in both seasons. • Varying the applied rates of (FYM) and mineral nitrogen were of significantly effected on this trait, the highest number of leaves were obtained by (10 ton FYM + 80 Kg N/fed.) or (30 ton FYM/fed.) in the first and second seasons, respectively. • The interaction between the studied factors were of significantly effect on this trait, Shandaweel I plants which fertilized with (10 ton FYM + 80 Kg N/fed.) and (120 kg N/fed.) in the first and second seasons, respectively. 3- Bulbing ratio:- • Bulbing ratio was significantly affected by cultivars. The highest bulbing ratio values were achieved by Giza 6 and Shandaweel I in the first and second seasons, respectively. • The values of this character was significantly differed by fertilization treatments. The best values were produced by (10 ton FYM + 80 Kg N /fed.) or (120 Kg N / fed.) in the first and second season, respectively. • The interaction between the two studied factors were significantly enhanced the values of bulbing ratio in both seasons. 4- Total bulb yield before curing (ton/fed.):- • Cultivars significantly effected on this character in both seasons. Shandaweel I yielded the highest values, i.e., (41.960 and 39.900 ton/fed.) in first and second seasons, respectively. • Organic and mineral nitrogen Fertilizers significantly effect on this character, the heaviest weight were obtained by ( 20 ton FYM + 40 Kg N/fed.) or (10 ton FYM + 80 Kg N/fed.) in the first and second seasons, respectively. • The studied interaction significantly enhanced on this character in both seasons. However, the plants of Shandaweel I cultivar fertilized with (10 ton FYM + 80 kg N/fed.) produced the highest values in both seasons. |
