Abstract The present investigation was carried out at Sids Agricultural Research Station Farm, during the two successive seasons of 1983 and 1984 to study the effect of three planting dates namely, June 20 th, July 5 th, July 20 th, four nitrogen fertilization levels namely, unfertilized control, 60 kg N/ feddan, 90 kg N/feddan, 120 kg N/feddan and three plant population density namely 17000 plants/feddan i.e. 35 cms between hills, 24000 plants/feddan i.e. 25 cms between hills and 40000 plants/feddan i.e. 15 cms between hills on growth, yield and yield components of open pollinated composite variety Giaz 2. A split-plot design with four replications in both seasons was applied for every planting date. So in the growing season three experiments were conducted for the three planting dates. In every experiments the four nitrogen levels were allocated randomly in the main plots, while the three plant population densities were assigned in the sub-plots. Normal agronomic practices were applied as usual. The following characters were studied. Plant height at 45-60-75 and 90 days from planting |
