Abstract The problem of draining a top clay cap. Underlain by an impervious layer by means of a. systemof double mole drains is investigated in this research. The problem is hydrodynamically treated using the theory of complex fanctions, the theory of conformal mapping and the theory of images. The complex potential, the flow velocity potential and the stream functions are establishedVelocity components at a general point in the flow field are derived and when examined, boundary conditions are found satisfied. A new discharge formula is derived. Also, the un~ steady behaviour of the subsoil water surface is studied and a new formula expressing the time variation of the water surface is established. A new spacing formula is also derived. Effect of various parameters on the drain discharge, the drain spacing and the behaviour of water table are studied A comparison between double and single mole drain systems is performed. |
