Abstract

The present investigational work deals
with themodelling and simulation of steam stripping towers used in stripping side stream petroleum
fractions in crudeatmospheric distillation units. To achieve our goal, a computational technique is
suggested, depending on the theta-method of convergence. The
suggested simulation technique predicts the stripping towers
perforaance, among which the stripper temperatures profiles
at each plate (using the Kb-method), the composition of fluids and their components flow rates at each plate (i.ecomplete plate material and heat balances), as well as the
thermo-physical properties of the constituents at each plate
(e.g. enthalpy, vapour pressures, bubble and dew point temperatures and pressures of multicomponent mixtures, and equilibrium-constants).Ultimately, the suggested simulation technique was
tested on an actual Naphtila str ipping tower (of the crude
oil distillation unit No. 4 in Alexandria Petroleum Company
at El-Hex, Alexandria-Egypt) within the frame work of a typical case study.
