Abstract
The Purpose of this work has been to measure the seam characteristics through studying the different fabric properties together with the different sewing threads properties using a standard seam assembly.Seam strength,seam slippage and seam pucker have been tested.Special attention have been directed to seam pucker as it is considered one of the most trouble-making seaming defect.The seam pucker was measured objectively by measuring the limit of contraction (LOC)in terms of measuring change in thickness versus contraction of seam assembly.This method have proved to be more accurate and efficient than subjective method.Also the fabric propertied affecting seam pucker have been explained physically and statistically analysed to find out the significance of the effect of each property and a proposed empirical equation has been derived.This equation have proved to be satisfactory and the calculated LOC is found to be highly correlated to measured LOC.
