Abstract Aim of the work We attempted to assess the left ventricular performance in obese hypertensive patients using the non-invasive transthoracic electrical bioimpedance cardiography. Conclusion We conclude that, although obesity is characterized by increased cardiac output, diminished vascular resistance and mild state of volume overload, and that hypertensive patients are characterized by contracted intravascular volume, higher peripheral resistance and low cardiac output, the association of both in the same patient represents a double burden on the heart and the clinical contention to consider one as innocent bystander is by no means not accepted at least regarding their combined effect on the heart. |
