Abstract

The present work aimed to study the effect ofN fertilizer
material and its grain size, and the nitrification inhibitor nitrapyrin
(NP) on growth, yield and nutrition of two crops grown on sandy
soils. The effect of N fertilizer material and its grain size on the
content of mineral N forms in soil percolate was also studied. The
fertilizers used were ammonium sulfate (AS), calcium nitrate (eN).
urea (UR) and ureaformaldchyde (UF). The fertilizer grain size was
coarse ( C) > 2 mm or fine (F) < 2 m111.Thus. three experiments
were conducted viz, leaching expo pot cxp with wheat and field expo
using NP, with maize.
The results are synopsized as follows:
1. In the leaching experiment, the NO’rN comprized 40 to 92% of
the leachate total cumulated N species. The solubility of the used
fertilizers followed the order: ASF > URr > i\SC > URC > UF
> CNF > CNC.
2. Regarding the wheat grain and straw yields, UF and CNC
treatments produced the highest values, respectively. However,
the N fertilizer grain size was not significantly effective. The
highest N recovery in wheat biological yield was found with
CNC and URC treatments.
