The exact aetiology of endometriosis is unknown, but there are numerous theories proposed its aetiology, the most recent one is the immunological and genetic theory which shows that there is defecient immunity in patients with endometriosis, this explains why few women develop the disease inspite of the common occurance of seedling, it was observed that in the peritoneal fluid of women with endometriosis there is increased number, concentration and activation of macrophages and defective natural Killer activity in the peripheral blood.
Endometriosis is an estrogen dependent disease, estrogen affects all the immune modifications occuring in endometriosis. 25% of cases of endometriosis are asymptomatic, whife others may complain of pains, infertility or bleeding irregularities.
